Parents won’t be penalised for keeping their children off school if a close contact tests positive for Covid but they don’t - for now.The rules on financial penalties for keeping children off school are also being reviewed.Headteachers have complained that some parents with Covid are sending their children into school, as the rules allow.Mother-of-three Debbie Walker said she decided to keep two of her children off school when one tested positive on the first day of term for them on September 8.

“I called the school and they advised me I should be sending my children to school despite the results as per the guidelines.“ Conwy Council said if parents or carers keep children off school if they themselves have Covid but the children don't that would count as an unauthorised absence in its schools.
