WHITTIER — Rio Hondo College sent off its 2023 graduates in grand fashion on Friday, May 26th.“It is with great pride and joy that I stand before you today completing my first year as the 11thSuperintendent/President of Río Hondo College to celebrate your remarkable achievements,’ Superintendent /President Marilyn Flores told the Class of 2023 and all those who came to celebrate them at the campus on Wednesday.And there was Roman Perez, the first official HOPE Scholar at Rio Hondo College.A bit about the college, from the college itself: “Río Hondo College is an educational and community partner committed to advancing social justice and equity as an antiracist institution that collectively invests in all students’ academic and career pathways that lead to attainment of degree, certificate, transfer, and lifelong-learning goals.
There was Jacob Estrada, who at 18 became the youngest student in the El Rancho Unified School District ever to graduate from college — Rio Hondo, on Friday.The college’s 60th Commencement Ceremony celebrated the school’s diversity and mission while honoring the academic journeys of 1,791 graduates who weaved their way through the pandemic and the challenges of life in the pursuit of an education.
