U.K.: 20M more subject to tier four COVID guidelines
An additional 20 million people in England will be subject to the country’s strictest tier of coronavirus restrictions beginning Thursday as the nation grapples with a more contagious new strain of the disease.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said that the Midlands, the North East, portions of the North and South West will all be subject to tier four restrictions starting on New Year’s Eve Day at 12:01 a.Areas subject to tier three guidelines will be: Rutland, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Liverpool City Region, York & North Yorkshire, Bath and North East Somerset, Devon, Plymouth, Torbay, Cornwall, Dorset, and Wiltshire.Tier three measures will also be applied “more broadly” in places like Liverpool and North Yorkshire, said Hancock.Tier three guidelines ban the mixing of households both indoors and in private gardens.

Save for takeout, restaurants must close, but shops, gyms, and personal care services are allowed to stay open.Also on Wednesday, the country approved Oxford-AstraZeneca’s vaccine against coronavirus.
