St Helena hit and run: Police hunt for driver after homeless man killed in Melbourne’s outer north
Police are hunting for the driver of a car believed to be involved in a hit-and-run that left a homeless Melbourne man dead.

Police on Thursday arrested the man suspected of driving at 44-year-old father Timmy Rakei, who was killed instantly, and his colleague, who was left with life-changing injuries.The 30-year-old was arrested at a property on Boundary Rd in Carrum Downs and a second man suspected of assisting the suspect flee the scene was also apprehended.“I would say that given the man’s injuries, they would have known they’ve struck something,” Detective Inspector Roger Schranz, from the Major Collision Investigation Unit, told 3aw.As he got closer he observed a man lying there,” Detective Inspector Schranz said.

Police said the man was crossing St Helena Road, near the intersection of Wallowa Road at St Helena, when he was hit by a car just before 2.CCTV footage released by police shows a light coloured vehicle driving at speed around the time of the fatal collision.
