The NSW parliament has passed a ban on single-use plastic items in what has been labelled a “game-changer” in the fight against waste.

Straws will be among a raft of single-use plastic items banned in one Australian state through a “game-changing” new law.The NSW parliament has passed a ban on single-use plastic items in what has been labelled a “game-changer” in the fight against waste.Lightweight plastic bags will be banned in NSW from June 1, 2022 and other plastic items such as straws, cutlery and cotton buds will be prohibited from November 1, 2022.” Mr Kean’s office said 60 per cent of all litter in NSW is made up from plastic packaging and other single-use plastic items.

Plastic straws will be banned in NSW from November 1 next year.The National Retail Association says all other Australian states and territories already have bans on lightweight plastic bags.
