NGT agrees to hear real estate association in private forests matter, Real Estate News, ET RealEstate

PANAJI: Based on the plea filed by an association of real estate developers in Goa, National Green Tribunal (NGT) has decided to hear the association in the matter regarding private forests in the state.The tribunal has been hearing the matter filed by Goa Foundation, challenging the reports on private forests placed before the tribunal by the state forest department.The body said that its members are in the business of construction and real estate in Goa and any adverse decision taken in the private forests matter will have a direct bearing on the rights of the members.Based on Supreme Court directives, the Goa government had constituted the Sawant Committee for the identification of government and private forests in Goa.

After other committees were set up to identify and demarcate private forests in Goa and several challenges were made to the identified areas, the matter finally reached NGT.Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (Credai)-Goa chapter had asked to be added as a respondent in the matter.
