Some Kentuckians got lucky on Christmas Eve when Walgreens gave out its excess coronavirus vaccine doses after the pharmaceutical chain found itself with thawed extra doses on hand.

Andy Beshear said the move breached protocol, and added that measures had been put in place to ensure that vaccines went to the people they were meant for.Beshear said the protocol was to offer the potentially lifesaving measure to those next in line, and announced enhanced communication to ensure that happens if there is a next time.“I don’t think that this was intentional, and we have to understand that in an undertaking this massive that mistakes are going to happen,” Beshear said, according to WHAS.1, Beshear said.

Some Kentuckians got lucky on Christmas Eve when Walgreens gave out its excess coronavirus vaccine doses after the pharmaceutical chain found itself with extra doses on hand that had to be used up.After doling out thawed vaccines to those in Phase 1A of the rollout, the pharmacies had some left over, and didn’t want the vaccine doses to expire and go to waste.
