Heavy rains cause flooding in southwest Nebraska

That wasn’t the case though thanks to diverging winds aloft, colliding outflow boundaries from storms in northeast and an existing mid level low spinning over southwest Nebraska.With winds light aloft as well, these storms moved ever so slowly dumping anywhere from 5 to 10 inches over southwest counties.These heavy rains caused both the Frenchman and Stinking Water Creeks to reach record crests and spill over their banks this morning.It can all be seen playing out looking at the satellite and radar loop over the the past 12 hours as we had existing showers and thunderstorms from last night continue to stick around into today.

These ingredients allowed for showers and storms to continue thriving overnight and into the day today.Typically we would see this type of activity fizzle out after sun set.
