Dlamini-Zuma slammed for call to ‘focus on rebuilding’ ANC after Gauteng metro defeats

Former ANC mayors in Joburg and Ekurhuleni have been replaced by DA candidates, and the opposition party's Randal Williams was elected unopposed as mayor in Tshwane.

The ANC emerged with most votes in Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Tshwane after the local government elections earlier this month, albeit all under 50%.Former ANC mayors in Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni, Mpho Moerane and Mzwandile Masina, have been replaced by the DA’s Dr Mpho Phalatse and Tania Campbell respectively.Co-operative governance and traditional affairs minister (Cogta) Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma says the ANC’s bruising defeats in Gauteng metros this week calls for rebuilding in the ruling party.Some claimed Dlamini-Zuma’s statement implied she was more interested in the needs of the ruling party than South Africans.

On Tuesday evening, he said he was satisfied with the outcome as long as the ANC was out of power.Mashaba was of the view the DA would rather lose power to the ANC in Johannesburg than back ActionSA.
