DeSantis said no 'messaging' in rainbow bridge lighting denial
The Florida Department of Transportation denied a request by Sarasota leaders to light the Ringling Bridge in rainbow colors to celebrate the LGBTQ community.

DeSantis said he doesn't believe there was any "messaging" intended in the decision by the Florida Department of Transportation to deny the lighting request.Now Sarasota leaders want the state agency to reevaluate the Ringling Bridge lighting request as well.Asked Friday during an event in Sarasota whether the decision to deny Sarasota's bridge lighting request is being reconsidered, DeSantis said "you'll have to talk to FDOT, I'm not involved in bridge lighting." As of Friday afternoon Brody said he hadn't heard back from FDOT about his request to reevaluate the Ringling Bridge lighting request.

“What's involved in changing the lighting on just the Ringling Bridge, it's a major effort,” FDOT spokesman Brian Rick told the Herald-Tribune last week after the lighting request was denied.It (lighting request denial) has a lot to do with how that bridge is designed.
