City Hall illuminated in honor of Kwanzaa
Every day, a candle outside City Hall will be lit to mark the principles of the holiday.

xml:space="preserve"> xml:space="preserve"> Mayor Bill de Blasio and First Lady McCray light a kinara in City Hall Park to celebrate the first night of Kwanzaa with HOT 97’s Ebro Darden, December 26.(Michael Appleton/Mayoral Photography Office) City Hall is being lit in honor of Kwanzaa all this week, a first for New York City.The festive display began on Sunday with a ceremony in which a large kinara — a candleholder used during Kwanzaa celebrations — was set up outside City Hall.Mayor de Blasio and First Lady McCray light a kinara in City Hall Park to celebrate the first night of Kwanzaa with HOT 97’s Ebro Darden.

” De Blasio got the idea for the celebration from radio host Ebro Darden of Hot 97.(Michael Appleton/Mayoral Photography Office) “This is a really beautiful moment for all of us,” Hizzoner said at the ceremony.
