Australian sailor clung to a beacon in Pacific: Coast Guard

An Australian sailor was rescued after he fell off his yacht and and clung to a beacon in the middle of the ocean for several hours.

(Caloundra Volunteer Coast Guard - QF4/Facebook) Authorities were alerted to Simpson’s blight after another sailor came across his unmanned boat with Mitch, his dog, still on board.com/GSjoliBfEH — Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) (@lifesavingqld) December 30, 2020 According to the Caloundra Volunteer Coast Guard, efforts remain underway in an attempt to get Simpson’s boat off of the beach.Meanwhile, Simpson’s boat continued to float but eventually ran aground at a beach where Mitch was taken into the custody of some friendly lifeguards.#UPDATE - Meet Mitch the dog who spent last night with our lifeguards after they rescued him from the boat which ran aground at #BribieIsland.

“The wave hit the side of the boat and I was trying to secure the dinghy which had come a little bit adrift and a rope broke holding the dinghy,” Simpson told 9News.“He’s a very lucky man to be able to get to that beacon,” Ian Hunt, commander of the Mooloolaba coastguard, told 9News.
