Australia have pulled out of this year's Copa America tournament, the South American Football Confederation has announced.

Australia have pulled out of this year's Copa America tournament, the South American Football Confederation has announced."Qatar and Australia will not come to play in the Copa America," CONMEBOL general secretary Gonzalo Belloso told Argentine radio station Radio Red.The qualifiers will be held in June 2021, conflicting with the schedule of Copa America.The Copa America, the oldest tournament in international football, was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and is due to be hosted in two nations for the first time.

"We would like to have 12 teams," he added, saying Copa America would be played with the usual 10 teams if no replacements come.He said the decision came after the Asian Football Confederation, of which both Australia and Qatar are members, moved forward dates for 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
