Queensland MP Andrew Wallace has been installed as the next Speaker of the House of Representatives after a vote on Tuesday.

A Queenslander has been told he has big shoes to fill after he was voted to take over the Speaker’s chair from outgoing Tony Smith.The government put Mr Wallace forward as its candidate to replace Tony Smith, who stepped aside to sit on the backbench after more than six years in the role.“You're not Tony Smith mark II, you’re Andrew Wallace mark I.Outgoing speaker Tony Smith received a standing ovation in the house on Monday.
