Alleged firebug accused of setting blazes in Monte Lake, Lac le Jeune

Court documents are shedding some new light on allegations against a Kamloops woman facing arson charges, accused of sparking a number of rural blazes in recent weeks.

Police said Cornish was identified after a sharp-eyed Monte Lake resident spotted a suspicious truck in the area of a fire on April 30.In a news release on Friday, Mounties said only that Cornish is alleged to have lit four fires “in various locations in the southeast district of B.Police previously said Cornish was arrested on Wednesday.” According to court documents, Cornish is alleged to have lit a fire in Monte Lake on April 30, then three blazes in the Lac le Jeune area — one between May 7 and May 8, another on May 8 and one on Wednesday.

Mounties said they worked side-by-side with BC Wildfire Service crews in the investigation that resulted in Cornish's arrest.On May 3, police issued a news release saying they were looking for a suspect in a number of suspicious fires along the Highway 97 corridor between Westwold and Kamloops.
