Two men were cited with taking oysters from polluted waters south of New Orleans on Tuesday after a drone spotted an illicit mollusk scoop, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

xml:space="preserve"> xml:space="preserve"> Two men were cited with taking oysters from polluted waters south of New Orleans on Tuesday after a drone spotted an illicit mollusk scoop, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.The wildlife department said agents found the pair — both from Port Sulphur — dredging oysters in an area closed due to pollution, and that five bags of oysters were seized.Department agents have used drones in aerial oyster patrol surveillance since 2018.Williams was also cited with a log book violation and an oyster vessel sanitation violation.

Nelson Williams III, 45, and James Garrison, 39, were booked in connection with alleged violations in Plaquemines Parish, the agency said.
